Underneath 6th Street Bridge, L.A. Part II

Leaving the 6th Street Bridge, we wondered beneath another bridge which was under construction. It was rather interesting with all the details of machines, construction materials, trash...etc. Here it was much darker so it was a good place to test my strobe! This is my first experience using an off camera strobe photographing a person. I mounted the strobe on my tripod, this tripod was passed on to me from my Dad! He had this since the 70's when he first bought it along with the Nikon F2. Though this tripod only extends to slightly above my waist...so a lot of times I was lighting the face from below, creating a lot of dracula-ish shadows! Well it sort of worked out by accident on a guy and a construction site as backdrop, but those shadows were not too pleasing! Something new I have learned then! Later some construction guys showed up, I mumbled to them I was a photography student, we hurried to finish up and had to leave! Felt like an Art Center Student all over!

Makes zero sense to have Simon next to a CAT machine..but oh well I guess I just liked the colors!

'One Man, One Trash Can, One Mission....'quoted Jaysen Lee

Lighting worked out better here, since he was sitting down and the strobe did not have to light him from below...

Dracula shadows....

Oops, construction guys coming to kick us out!

Underneath 6th Street Bridge, L.A.

Waking up Saturday morning, we absolutely did not have any plans for this weekend! So I decided to take my strobe out and experiment with my newly acquired skill, using a remote external flash! And without much of a choice, once again I made my hub plus his favorite piece of 'toy' as my model/object. My hub and most of his friends are cars fanatics, one time our friend Scot drove us around downtown L.A. close to Little Tokyo. He told us the industrial area around the 4th and 6th bridges by the L.A. river are often used as location for commercials, movies...etc. In minutes we whipped up the perfect plan, that was to have dark malty German beer, hot dogs and fat cut fries at Wurstkuche, then a quick photoshoot! There are indeed a lot of neat run-down industrial looking streets to take photographs...I could have spend all afternoon but my hub complained about having back pain.. -_-"....Under the bridge here, I was practicing using natural lighting in open shades...

Absolutely not encouraging smoking here, in fact I really DISLIKE!!

I like the geometric shapes created by the bridge's shadow....

From a professional stand point, I believe the goal is to minimize all the shadows reflecting off the car, unfortunately with my very limited skills I am unable to achieve such effect, if you look carefully you can see my legs reflecting off the car :P

Yoz...

Looking for harsh shadows, always make great black and whites!

This is my favorite shot, love the little plastic chair I brought along! :p

Skylar Luna (Organic Cotton PJs)

For the past two years, I have been assisting Wen C. Reese with graphic branding for her line of children's clothing, SKYLAR. Over time we have become friends, it is great working with her since she is very open to new ideas and much in tune with current fashion trends! On top of work we will be chit chatting about life and everything else! Her latest project is a line of ultra soft, organic cotton, children pajamas. I had so much fun spending the afternoon taking these shots at her backyard! Candy canes full of colors, they are so soft to touch and cheerful to look at! Wen will be officially launching Skylar Luna Fall of 2011! Visit www.skylarluna.com later this Fall for more information of this product!

Momi and Mommy

I love seeing how much pet owners adore and obsess with  their furry animals! This little dog has grown so much since the last time I met her which was about two years ago! She was really friendly to me, licked all over my arms, showered me with kisses and rolled over on her belly for me! I love this little monster!

Please be patient Momi!

Mommy and me!
I know I look so gorgeous!
I always have a smiley face don't I!
Me and Louboutin, equally important!
Look I can make myself disappear!

Kiss, kiss...
And more kisses....

Elaine x Louboutin

Elaine was kind enough to be my model Saturday afternoon! We started with lots of laughs not knowing how to pose naturally. Finally I asked Elaine what are her favorite things besides her lovely dog Momi, she then ran upstairs and grabbed boxes of beautiful Louboutins! See her love for her shoes, they are like delicate sculptural pieces!

Kiss of the pump.
Elaine naturally posed with her hand against the wall, the composition came out great!
The black top created amazing graphic shapes....check out those gorgeous heals too!
Elaine is so talented at applying her own makeup!
